¡Week 1! Chapter 1-3

This is my second entry in which I'm gonna talk about the chapters one to three of Brave New World, in terms of the setting.

First, the most important fact, about time, is that the story is placed in year 632 A.F. and that Huxley mentions they started counting since the introduction of the T-model, it means, it was year 0. In relation to time, the history is a controversial topic in the book, the World Controllers mention history as useless information, "History is bunk" said by the Controller (Pg 29, Brave New World, A. Huxley). The society and the Controllers don't like history or religion because both of them are dangerous and corrupting. If people start to take into account the past, they would be out of the present time and would want to change several things of the present, so is a problem for them.

Now, space makes an outstanding role in the development of the story. There are plenty of facts, but I'm gonna start with places. Chapter 1 begins in the Central London Hatchery and Conditioning Center which is a production factory for humans, the production factory term is related to Ford´s mass production. There are no more speciallized big places , we can found the Locker rooms or the playground, but Huxley provided a huge characterization for the Center. He described technology, proffessions, ways of thinking, procedures, etc, all attached to the setting.

Also, we could read that the world was also divided by countries, in this case, Mustapha Mond represented West Europe, in Chapter 1, the director mentions Mombasa and Singapore.

To conclude, these 3 chapters were really strange for me beacuse the future that Huxley propose is really weird, how they make babies in pods, how they electrocute little babies, how relationships were founded in sex, also in kids which is disgusting for me, but all these advances are a critic to normal society, so Huxley made a great work imagining an almost perfect future.
