Brave New World

This is my fourth entry, in which I'm going to concentrate in a symbol of the book but first, I would like to talk about these curious chapters. John is portraited finally and is awesome that he is the son of the mysteriously disappeared girl that went with the director, Thomas, who is John's father but I think that Bernard passes a limit with his revenge because John has nothing to do with the problems between the director and Bernard. Also, we can see that John and Lenina get involved, not having sex, but they are mutually confused, John feels something but Lenina is like, unstable because I think she's beginning to feel something. Now, I would like to analyze the symbol of Ford and the symbol of the modified cross, that are related by their meaning. Ford is the deity of the book like we can appreciate in a quote on page 45  "We have the World State now. And Ford's Day celebrations, and Community Sings, and Solidarity Services."  (Huxley, 1932, pg 45)....

This is my third entry. I'm gonna talk about a character of the book that catches my attention but first, I want to share my comments about these 3 chapters. They are different than the last ones, now, we can see reasonable persons and two opposing forces in the book: the persons that have the privilege of using their intellectuality and the ones who are guided by the World Controllers and are under Soma effects. On the other hand, the first 3 chapters only described the world characteristics and average persons (also why and how they remove feelings, emotions, and possible personalities as well as their addiction of sex). Now, the characters that are more interesting in these chapters are Bernard Marx and Helmholtz Watson. I want to talk about Bernard. This is my second entry in which I'm gonna talk about the chapters one to three of Brave New World, in terms of the setting. First, the most important fact, about time, is that the story is placed in year 632 A.F. and that Huxley mentions they started counting since the introduction of the T-model, it means, it was year 0. In relation to time, the history is a controversial topic in the book, the World Controllers mention history as useless information, "History is bunk" said by the Controller (Pg 29, Brave New World, A. Huxley). The society and the Controllers don't like history or religion because both of them are dangerous and corrupting. If people start to take into account the past, they would be out of the present time and would want to change several things of the present, so is a problem for them. This blog has a purpose to share my thoughts about this relevant book written by Aldous Huxley in 1932, which awake many interests in working about utopian and dystopian topics and I'll like to discuss our progress in this English book. Regarding the introductions written by Margaret Atwood and David Bradshaw, they give us a preview of the story that comes later. Apart from all the details that the authors of the introductions mention, I consider that a very important one is the reason why Huxley wrote this text; in the year of 1926, Huxley visited the United States because he thought the most dangerous consequence of First World War was the American World domination.
