¡Week 3! Chapter 7-11
This is my fourth entry, in which I'm going to concentrate in a symbol of the book but first, I would like to talk about these curious chapters. John is portraited finally and is awesome that he is the son of the mysteriously disappeared girl that went with the director, Thomas, who is John's father but I think that Bernard passes a limit with his revenge because John has nothing to do with the problems between the director and Bernard. Also, we can see that John and Lenina get involved, not having sex, but they are mutually confused, John feels something but Lenina is like, unstable because I think she's beginning to feel something.
Now, I would like to analyze the symbol of Ford and the symbol of the modified cross, that are related by their meaning. Ford is the deity of the book like we can appreciate in a quote on page 45 "We have the World State now. And Ford's Day celebrations, and Community Sings, and Solidarity Services." (Huxley, 1932, pg 45). Now, Ford was an American automobile manufacturer who invented the Model T, which in Brave New World context is the symbol of the religion, he introduces mass production. Huxley knew about this businessmen because he traveled to the United States and in the ship, he read a book about the ideals of this man. Another fact is that in real life, because of Christianity, we split the years between Before God and After god, meanwhile, in the book, is separated in Before Ford and After Ford (A.F.). Is curious that they knew what Ford was because in the society they don't know nothing about the past, and they know what were concepts like Christianity, Heaven, soul, immortality and the concept of God but they are not familiar with them.
Now, the T symbol is the inverse of Christianity symbol which is a cross, because as in the quote of pg. 45 "All crosses had their tops cut and became T's. There was also a thing called God." (Huxley, 1932, pg 45).
To conclude, we could say that the world controllers want to make religion concept another thing, because, in the book, the characters follow Ford because they are obligated to, and they don't object nothing because they are used to "believe" in Ford. I want to state that our god, is a deity because he was a remarkable person, and he wanted and believed in justice, humility, and solidarity, meanwhile, Ford was only a businessman and to make a new deity from him is really strange by Huxley's part, I think he is trying to satirize or criticise something but later, when the story finishes, we'll see.
